Flowers have a long-standing history being paired with food, and it’s no wonder this timeless tradition is carried on in a place like Cafe Mamo.

Mike and Summer, owners of Cafe Mamo, have cultivated a remarkable atmosphere with a seasonally focused menu of farm-to-table dishes. Everything from the design of the restaurant, the wine selection, the food being prepared, and the records spinning feels genuinely inspired. Zachary laughingly recalls a conversation he and Mike shared about squash last fall, regarding their many shapes, sizes and unique flavor profiles.

Mike’s passion for sharing his joyous appreciation and earnest enthusiasm for food is contagious. It makes being a customer that much more exciting. It’s less like you’ve arrived to eat food at a restaurant… and more like you’re sharing a meal in good company. 

An intimate, intentional space like Cafe Mamo feels warm and approachable for all. Once, when we showed up to refresh the flowers, one of the regulars asked if she could take home any of the wilting flowers. Carefully wrapping a rubber band around a handful of stems, I asked what she had planned to do with them, and was delighted to hear that they would be hung upside-down from the ceiling of their guest room.

We love imagining the flowers traveling home with them to serve a second purpose.

We’ve been told that the staff and customers enjoy watching as new blossoms open throughout each week. When we’re there, we see people’s eyes drift from their private conversations towards the flowers as we arrange them into their vases. Summer is a beautiful and attentive listener, a humble, quick-witted, sommelier. She is always so thoughtful in letting us share the bar with her while we arrange. Every Thursday evening, we look forward to making an appearance with fresh blooms that we’ve thoughtfully picked out to compliment their space and to extend a gesture of beauty.
