Sourcing Flowers

During the week leading up to an event, we spend lots of time preparing our vessels with necessary mechanics so they are ready for flowers. We enjoy driving around collecting blooms and connecting with local growers as well as walking through a few of our favorite nurseries.

Through experience, we've discovered the importance of selecting flowers that complement and enhance the design, rather than fighting against it. Curating harmonious ingredients is a cornerstone of our design process and essential for creating stunning events.

Bloom varieties we favor

We're always delighted to incorporate delicate, airy elements or anything with captivating colors that complement the chosen palette. We're particularly fond of using ocean pearls, blooming clematis, fritillaria lilies, foxglove, cosmos, bleeding hearts, hellebore, tulips, Icelandic poppies, phlox, and more… The possibilities are truly endless.

Foliage types and blossoming branches

Many of our designs are informed by gestural stems, small blooms and layering ingredients to create dimension. Our favorite way to use greenery is by giving it space to sprawl and climb. We consider the way these varieties grow in their natural environments and work to reflect this as we design. We enjoy using jasmine vine, raspberry bush, ninebark, smoke bush, cherry blossoms, quince, spirea and lilac.

We always look to soften the frame between our arrangements and the natural environment that surrounds them.

Sourcing from local growers ensures that we are able to design with the season’s best offerings. It also means that our flowers won’t need to travel as far to make their debut in arrangements Hyssop will be providing for events. We tend to keep an open mind and are eager to visit with growers to let their perspective inform our selection as well.
