Step into Spring Class at Hyssop | 4/11 | 2-4pm
Step into spring with a thoughtfully curated flower arranging workshop hosted by Hyssop.
Saturday, April 11th from 2-4pm
619 Lyon Street NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503
Rooted in the tradition of ikebana (the Japanese art of floral arranging) this immersive experience invites you to slow down, observe, and connect with nature through both process and form. Ikebana is more than arranging flowers; it’s a meditative practice that considers balance, space, intention and the vessel that grounds each stem.
Designed for mindful beginners and experienced artists alike, this hands-on class will guide you through the fundamentals of floral composition. You’ll learn how we thoughtfully source seasonal blooms, prepare stems, and build arrangements through layering techniques. After a guided, step-by-step demonstration, you’ll have the opportunity to explore your own creative expression—either by following along or freely experimenting with your design.
Each participant will receive:
Access to all of our favorite spring blooms to choose from, use of all necessary tools, along with the use of our hand-painted floral backdrop set up with styling props to photograph our arrangements together (using our phones).
A limited-edition Cave Vessel (vase) by London-based artist Jiayao Peng of PPP Lab with a floral pin frog anchored to the bottom. (Although it’s a smaller vase, there are a lot of possibilities for designing into such a unique, limited-edition piece!)
Tea and a little something sweet from our neighbors on the block.
Join us for an inspiring and tactile experience that blends artistry, mindfulness, and the beauty of spring blooms.
